Patricia Barber, the acclaimed performer known for her bold blending of poetry, jazz, and art song, has announced the upcoming release of a new all-standards album, "Clique," set to be unveiled in August 2021 in stunning high-fidelity. This highly anticipated album serves as the successor to "Nightclub," her critically acclaimed and fan-favorite first all-standards record. Clique features a tracklist of tunes that Barber has frequently performed as encores throughout her illustrious career, including classics by renowned composers such as Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stevie Wonder, Lee Hazlewood, Lerner & Loewe, and Thelonious Monk, among others.
These are relaxed, communal recording sessions, with Barber's long-time core duo of bassist Patrick Mulcahy and drummer Jon Deitemyer providing a seamless rhythmic foundation, navigating the intricate, sensitive playing and reflective singing of the artist. The support of her long-term collaborators, including guitarist Neal Alger and saxophonist Jim Gailloreto, allows Barber to shine brightly while creating space for their own unique contributions. The chemistry within this ensemble is palpable, encompassing the group's long-developed synergy, painstakingly curated by these musicians over the years. This synergy serves as both a metaphor and the perfect title for her new album, "Clique."
The album will be released on audiophile-quality 180g 33rpm vinyl, offering listeners an immersive and high-resolution listening experience. The recording and mixing process was handled by renowned engineer Jim Anderson using DXD (Digital eXtreme Definition) ultra-high-resolution technology. The album was then mastered by the renowned Bob Ludwig, and the lacquers were cut by Scott Hull at Masterdisk. The pressing will be done at the renowned RTI (Record Technology Inc.) facility, ensuring the highest quality vinyl pressing.
